Sicily Cooking and Wine

October 19 - 27, 2019

Erice Castello di Venere

What makes this trip special:

  • Spend the day exploring Palermo; get an initial introduction to Sicilian history and local food traditions.  Visit the local markets Palermo is known for and learn about the most important Sicilian street food products.

  • Head to Segesta and visit the Doric temple surrounded by rocks and vineyards.  Next we visit Erice with its medieval streets, monasteries and churches.  Today we will end in Trapani in the plains of Marsala where some of the best Sicilian wines are made.  Enjoy a lunch at a local restaurant overlooking the salt pans.

  • Transfer to Agrigento and visit Sant’ Angelo Muxaro and a dairy farm where we will have a cheese tasting before heading to a local bakery to taste Sicilian specialties.

  • Walk along the Valley of the Temples, one of the most stunning examples of Greek architecture before we enjoy a cooking experience preparing authentic Sicilian foods.

  • Visit the Villa Romana del Casale and have lunch in a Sicilian agritourism setting.

  • Jeep 4x4 tour of Mount Etna; admiring the landscape as you climb the volcano passing orange and olive trees, charming vineyards and forests of pine trees.  Ending with a gourmet lunch served in a beautiful winery.

  • Cycle through the stone walls and ancient paths of Modica and Scicli.  We will stop at one of the ancient chocolate shops in town to sample pastries and chocolate before cycling down to the  seaside village of Sampieri.

Trip limited to 10 people.
