Aspen Charm

Great for: Ski getaways but also excellent in the summer for outdoor activities. Families, friends and large groups.
Trip Duration: 4- 7 nights

Aspen was founded as a mining town in the late 1800’s. Although it has come a long way since, with multimillion dollar homes dotting the valley, it still has retained some of the feeling of an old western town.

The Little Nell is the only ski in ski out hotel on the mountain. It has the largest entry level rooms in the area, starting at 600 ft.². All the rooms have fireplaces and there are lots of connecting options, with up to four rooms connecting. The restaurant was fantastic and the lobby is very lively and bustling. Lots of locals use it as a workspace and there is great energy. They have a brand new spa. The spa rooms are suites where there’s a relaxation area and sauna and shower. You have use of the room for 15 minutes before and after your treatment. You access their ski concierge through the building and walk out and are probably 20 yards away from the lift to get on the mountain. Important to note, talk to us about the location of rooms. They have lots of categories and each one is right for different people! Great apres ski area.

Across the way is a building that holds the Little Nell residences. There are hotel room types as well as 2, 3 and four bedroom residences, and the building has its own dedicated staff. This area functions more like a club level room, but also has full access to the main hotel. Great outdoor space. They also have their own ski concierge and covered parking.

A few blocks away is the Limelight, the sister Property to the Little Nell. This one is a good option for families and about half the price of the Little Nell. Each room has a kitchenette, and they have several apartment type accommodations that come with full kitchens. It has the longest happy hour in town, is a brand new build and has live music most nights. The large lobby was really bustling and again, seems like a lot of locals use it as a hang out or a place to work. Entry level rooms do not have bathtubs and only one sink but a superior room has a larger bathroom and a nice balcony. The apartment style rooms were certainly the most impressive, offering good space for families and groups.

The Mollie is also a newer option in town. Rooms are mostly king beds with only a few options that have two queens, so fewer options for families. There are only 68 rooms, one restaurant and a small gym and pool area. They have a speakeasy that operates on occasion. The lobby area is super trendy and cool, and another place where people tend to hang out and work during the day.

Next, I saw the Jerome, an Auberge property built in 1889. This feels the most like an old western property. Guys in cowboy hats open the door for you and the inside is very historical, with big fireplaces and dark wood. The bar was absolutely hopping the night we went in for drinks. And there are a couple of restaurants and a coffee shop all in that main lobby. It has a proper spa with relaxation area. Over 35% of their rooms have a connecting option. Up to three bedrooms are available. There are 99 rooms in the main building and they acquired the building across the walkway which has two residences with kitchenettes. Penthouse suites have full kitchens. All bathrooms have walk-in showers , Tub and double vanities. They have a speakeasy that is worth going to even if you’re not staying at the hotel, but reservations are definitely needed. There are two shuttles That will take you to any of the four mountains and an outfitter on site that will do ski rentals and arrange for summer activities as well.

Lastly, I saw the Aspen St., Lodge. This place was absolutely amazing. This “lodge“ is a private home, but they allow for a full takeover of the home as a rental. On the first level, there are seven gorgeous rooms that are set up like hotel rooms. Each have their own bathroom and either one bed or two queen beds. Large living area on the ground level. On the next level, there are two big bunk rooms and a huge recreational room. Master bedroom is on the top floor, along with a huge kitchen and another very large living space. There is a very large hot tub/plunge pool on the roof and great outdoor space. This place would be absolutely perfect for a large multigenerational family or group of friends.
